NBA replies to CJ's personal secretariat

KATHMANDU, April 3: Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has submitted a letter to the personal secretariat of Chief Justice Ram Kumar Prasad Shah on Thursday in response to the secretariat's claims of corruption in the judiciary.

In the letter, the NBA has argued that it would submit the evidence and facts related to corruption only if a reliable committee is formed under the parliament and Judiciary Council.

In its six-page letter, the NBA has said that it respects the queries from the personal secretariat but urged the chief justice to take concrete measures for earning people's faith toward judiciary.

"Nepal Bar Association promises to provide all kinds of support if you come up with concrete action plan to earn public faith by making judiciary independent, efficient and effective," stated the letter addressed to Chief Justice Shah.

Justice Shah's secretariat had asked Nepal Bar Association to furnish clarifications as well as facts and evidences, if they have any, about corruption in the judiciary.

The personal secretariat of Chief Justice Ram Kumar Prasad Shah on Friday had sent letters to NBA Chairman Hari Krishna Karki and advocates Tikaram Bhattarai and Raman Shrestha seeking clarifications over allegations of corruption in judiciary.

The declaration, it said, was based on the report prepared by a taskforce coordinated by then SC justice Ram Prasad Shrestha some years ago and the declaration of the last judges' conference, which stressed on opting a policy of zero tolerance to corruption within judiciary.
