"Of them, 14 were killed in fire, 36 by lightning, 28 died in epidemics, two in windstorms, 80 in landslides, 83 in floods, 14 in air crash and one in heat wave in various parts of the country," Govind Kusum, secretary of the ministry, said at a meeting of Natural Resources and Means Committee of parliament on Thursday.[break]
He said 39 districts from all five development regions were badly affected by natural disasters.
He also informed that 583 buildings were damaged and 1,137 houses were partially destroyed by floods in various parts of the country in the last two months.
According to him, the government released Rs 30 million from the prime minister´s natural disaster relief fund and an additional Rs 7.85 million from the central natural disaster rescue fund to support the affected people in the last two months.
According to the ministry, the government provided Rs 25,000 to each family affected by floods.
Meanwhile, a subcommittee formed to study the landslide in Bajura district submitted its field report to the parliamentary committee on Thursday.
