“Tatapani area has been the worst-hit by the flood,” said Tek Bahadur Bista, a technician at the District Agriculture Office. “We lost all our land to the river last week but we have received no support from the authorities so far,” said Nara Bahadur Dhami, another local.

Jitendra Kumar Jha reports from Rajbiraj that the flooding Khando River continues to enter the settlements in Tilathi VDC. The river continues to swell due to continuous rainfall over the last several days. Locals of Tilathi VDC blamed weak embankment structure for the flood. In Tilathi VDC alone, flood has inundated 500 bighas of land.

Currently, almost all the wards in the VDC have been inundated by rain water, said Chunchun Jha, another local.

Ranjit Jha, another local, said that the flood has increased the risk of epidemic outbreak in the village. “Power outage during the night makes life even more difficult for us,” he said.

Meanwhile, torrential downpour over the last few days has affected over a dozen other VDCs in the district. The people of Barmajhiya, Portaha, Mainakaderi, Trikaul, Madhwapur, Bhardaha, among other VDCs, have also been affected by the flood.

According to Republica correspondent in Solukhumbu Bhanubhakta Niraula, seven houses in Gudel VDC of the district collapsed in a landslide trigged by incessant rainfall. However, no human casualty was reported in the incident. Ten families in the VDC have been displaced by landslides. Landslides also destroyed cardamom plants in around 45 ropanis of land in the VDC.
