MoEST expresses concern over physical punishment of students, recent school bus accident

KATHAMDNU, Feb 14: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) has expressed grave concern over the practice of physical torture against students and the recent school bus accidents. 

The MoEST has issued a press release instructing parents, local administrations and stakeholders to take strict action against those who physically punish students.

The ministry has said that it has drawn serious attention to the incident in which a teacher and accountant at Prabhat English Boarding Secondary School Bhimad Municipality-6, Tanahun, allegedly scalded three students of grade four with hot spatula on February 11 for making noise.

Similarly, the ministry has also requested the police to immediately investigate the incident of a bus accident of Junkiri School in Dakshinkali, Kathmandu and SS Academy in Shankharapur, which resulted in the death of students.

The ministry has directed the concerned authorities to follow the vehicle standards as per the School Bus Directives 2047. The ministry has also appealed to hold educational tours, picnics and other programs only on the basis of justification.
