Locals and foreigners are expected to participate enthusiastically in the eighth edition of the marathon that will take place at the highest altitude of the world. [break]
The marathon, besides being an adventure sport, also aims to spread awareness about environmental pollution and climate change.
Each participant is expected to carry at least 500 grams of waste from the base camp to Namche Bazaar. The decision to carry waste is completely a voluntary decision but the organizers are confident that the participants will eagerly support it.
The organizing committee of the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon 2010 signed an agreement with Extreme Everest Expeditions (EEE) on Saturday to bring down the waste from the region. 31 Sherpas of EEE have collected over 2,000 kg of wastes from above 8,000m which needs to be disposed from the area, said a press release issued by the organizers.

Foreign participants are said to be fond of the concept of ´clean Himalayas´ and the same is expected from local participants. The marathon is being organized by Himalaya Expeditions for the past eight years.
