Maoists torch van, motorcycles in Dhankuta

DHANKUTA, Nov 2: A group of about 25 Maoists torched a parked Maruti van (Ko 1 Cha 2582) and nine motorcycles used by CPN-UML-affiliated Youth Force cadres in Sidhuwa bazaar in Dhankuta on Monday, Dhankuta´s Youth Force coordinator Pravin Pokharel said.



However, UCPN (Maoist) Dhankuta Secretary Ganesh Rai said he was unaware of the incident.



The incident happened at around 9 in the evening. There are no casualties.



Locals said police reached the site only after the vehicles were torched.



Following the incident, the Youth Force has announced an "indefinite" shutdown of Dhankuta from Tuesday.



Youth Force members and Maoists had clashed in Jitpur in the district on Sunday at a Maoist function. Two Maoists were seriously injured in Sunday´s incident.
