KATHMANDU, Dec 28: A meeting of CPN (Maoist) and Nepali Congress leaders on Sunday agreed to end ongoing deadlock in parliament, an NC leader said.
What went wrong?
Maoist leaders urged the main opposition, NC, to end the impasse and allow smooth running of the parliament meeting. [break] But the NC leaders said they first wanted immediate action at least toward returning of seized property, ending YCL “anarchy” and stopping unilateral formation of local peace committees, according to our correspondent Ghanashyam Ojha from Baluwatar.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has assured the Nepali Congress leaders that he would get Cabinet endorse the demands raised by the NC and also make an announcement of the same at the parliament, said NC Chief Whip Laxman Ghimire. "We told the PM that only after the Cabinet takes decision on our demands and he announces their implementation at the parliament, we will allow resumption of normal work in the House." Nepali Congress has been boycotting parliament, saying the government has not fulfiilled its demands.
The Cabinet meeting is likely to take place at noon Sunday.
Senior leaders from both the sides had participated in the meeting.
