Govt, agitating doctors fail to reach agreement, NMA to take decision whether to halt protest tomorrow

KATHMANDU, Sept 26:  The agitating doctors have failed to reach an agreement to end their protest even as the government side agreed to take action against those involved in attacks on doctors and health workers in accordance with the Safety of Health Workers and Health Institutions Act, 2066 BS.

KATHMANDU, Sept 26:  The agitating doctors have failed to reach an agreement to end their protest even as the government side agreed to take action against those involved in attacks on doctors and health workers in accordance with the Safety of Health Workers and Health Institutions Act, 2066 BS.


Nepal Media Association (NMA), which is leading the protest, said it will take decision whether to put off its protest on Wednesday. Doctors began their fresh round of protest after attacks on health workers at Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara and a few other places.

In the discussion held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday, the two sides agreed to keep a complaint box in every health institution in case of any complaint about the treatment and keep a notice about the action that will be taken if anyone tries to take the law into their own hands.


Also, the government agreed to take action against those involved in such incident as per the existing laws, according to the Home Ministry source.


Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha, Health Minister Mohan Basnet, representatives of Nepal Medical Council, Doctors Association, Nursing Association and others were present in the meeting.
