Releasing the report of a team formed by the association to probe into Dr Shrestha’s abduction in Bharatpur today, the association said Maoists had abducted Shrestha. [break]
Association central president Mahesh Basnet said the probe team has found Maoist hand in the abduction and the association will make public the details about the places where Dr Shrestha was kept during the captivity soon.
He said the probe so far has found that Shrestha was kept at Betham Memorial Brigade, Shaktikhor; Jhyantungdanda in Nawalparasi and Kulekhani in Makwanpur.
He said an analysis of past activities of the Maoists, Maoist leaders’ statements over the abduction, report of the Maoist probe team, statements of the family members and security agencies’ probe also confirm the Maoist hand in the abduction.
He said the Maoists had killed Yan Prasad Gautam and Ramhari Shrestha in the past and Dr Shrestha was also abducted over financial matters.
He said the report made public today is only a preliminary report and detailed report will be released in Kathmandu within a few days.
He said Dr Shrestha’s family is more in tension after the doctor’s release than when he was in captivity. The family members’ statements that the government cannot find out the facts about the abduction also hint that the abduction was carried out by the Maoists.
