The clash had ensued after the police personnel attempted to destroy some 200 illegally built huts in the Guthi land of Laxmi Narayan Math. The clash lasted for five hours after the locals started hurling stones on police personnel.
Of the eight injured villagers, condition of four is critical while the condition of all five injured police is normal. Seriously injured Mohid Ansari, Smile Sheb, Bahida Khatun and Sabana Khatun of Matihani-1 have been undergoing treatment at the District Hospital, Jaleshwor.
Police had lobbed seven shells of tear gas to bring the condition under control. It is learnt that the situation at the incident place is normal.
