The Parishad, an ethnic political group, has organized the general strike in the nine districts of the east in protest against non-representation of the group in the State Restructuring Commission. [break]
The ethnic group announced the general strike from today citing that the government failed to implement one of the points in the five-point agreement signed between the Parishad and the government on March 19, 2008 which states that the representative from the Parishad would be included in the State Restructuring Commission once it is formed.
All the educational institutions, factories, market and transport in the district are closed since the morning today due to the general strike.
Cadres of the Parishad are seen on the streets enforcing the general strike.
