Karate team off to Bhutan

KATHMANDU, Sept 25: A 38-member Nepali karate team, including 28 players, left Kathmandu on Wednesday to participate in the South Asian Karate Championship to be held in Thimphu, Bhutan from September 27 to 30.



The karate team includes 16 male and 12 female players. Sonam Lama (50 kg), Bishnu Shrestha (55 kg), Milan Nepali (60 kg), Binod Maharjan (67 kg), Lekhnath Mainali (75 kg), Bhim Bahadur Tamang (84 kg) and Digambar Prasad Panta (above 84 kg) will compete in the men´s kumite events of their respective weight categories.[break]



Bikas Moktan, Chhesang Sherpa, Ram Tamang, Laxman Tamang and Gopi Ram Ghale will represent Nepal in the men´s team kumite event.

Parshuram Banstola will compete in men´s kata singles and the team of Ganesh Bahadur Thing, Monday Kaji Shrestha and Kedar Bahadur Simkhada in men´s team kata.



In the women´s section, Armila DC (45 kg), Sapana Lama (55 kg), Sunita Maharjan (61 kg), Rita Karki (67 kg), Kalpana Basnet (75 kg) and Nirmala Rai (above 75 kg) will compete in individual kumite event. Chanchala Danuwar will represent Nepal in women´s singles kata and Subhadra Shrestha, Sangita Dangol and Suman Lama in women´s team kata.

Mahesh Kumar Shrestha, Rajendra Kapali and Ganga Ram Maharjan are the coaches of the Nepali team.
