KATHMANDU, June 8: Kaemp 8848, a Nepali outdoor clothing brand that has carved a niche for itself in the global market, is planning to introduce its products in the domestic market.

Shuva Garment, which has been exporting apparels for the last 18 years, had launched its own brand called Kaemp 8848 around five years ago.[break]

“Earlier, I used to make products based on orders from international clients and export them. But five years ago I realized that I need to create my own brand. This led to the birth of Kaemp 8848,” said Prabin Thapa, proprietor of Shuva Garment.

Since then he has been exporting his products to markets such as the US, Europe and Canada. He has also opened Kaemp 8848 outlets in Boulder, Colorado, the US and Vancouver, Canada. Thapa is also planning to soon open more outlets in the US, some European countries, Australia and Canada.

As his company is expanding its global outreach, Thapa has now shown interest in penetrating the local market as well.

Thapa had decided to make his brand"s presence felt in the domestic market upon receiving overwhelming response during two trade fairs that he took part in.

“I took part in two trade fairs in Nepal to see if Nepalis love our products. We got overwhelming response,” said Thapa, who is opening an outlet in Thamel “within a month”. Kaemp 8848 products will also be available in all Bhat-bhateni Supermarket outlets within next two 2 months.

Kaemp 8848 products will be available for as little as Rs 800 and can go up to Rs 40,000. T-shirts made by Kaemp 8848, for instance, will be available for prices ranging from Rs 800 to Rs 900, while jackets, that can bear freezing temperature of up to 60 degree centigrade, will cost as much as Rs 40,000.

“These products are 25 percent expensive in the global market because of taxes, cargo charges and other expenses,” Thapa said.

Besides creating Kaemp 8848 products, Thapa also designs and manufactures products for other brands as per order from his clients all over the world.

Currently, the company, with its factory at Budhhanagar, is employing 70 people. The factory has the capacity to produce 400,000 units of jackets annually. The jackets are made using technical fiber and down feather that are very light to make climbing easier.

“I test the products on mountaineers before introducing them in the market and make necessary changes to the design as per their suggestions. Hence I call Kaemp 8848 a brand created by me with the help of mountaineers,” said Thapa.

Kaemp 8848 provides lifetime warranty on material and zippers of its products.

“We also provide free customer care service in case of minor damages and charge nominal amount in case the damage is a major one,” said Thapa.
