During a press conference organized at the National Sports Council (NSC) on Sunday to inform about the decisions of SSDB, Kul Bahadur Thapa, the secretary of the board, said the event will see participation from several schools.[break]
Besides this, SSDB on the recommendation of National Sports Council (NSC) has also decided to make extra curricular activities compulsory at the school level. Organizations of private schools and higher secondary schools -- PABSON, N-PABSON and HISSAN -- are among the members of SSDB.
"Extra-curricular activities have been made compulsory after the decision," said Yuvaraj Lama, the president of SSDB and member-secretary of NSC.
Lama also accepted that there were some shortcomings in the first edition of the event. "We reviewed the weaknesses of the first edition. It was conducted in a short time, however, we were able to send across a positive message."
PABSON President Baburam Pokharel hinted at hiking fees for extra curricular activities while N-PABSON President Gita Rana spoke only about academic aspect of the subject. However, HISSAN President Umesh Shrestha expressed commitment not to hike fees.
NSC, the apex sports body of the nation, has also decided to provide its infrastructure free of cost to the schools. The meeting has also decided to make it compulsory for schools to hire a sports teacher and build sports teacher training center. "There will be at least 15 school teacher training centers," Thapa said.
It has also come up with the concept of a ´model´ sports school for the development of sports.
The meeting has also decided to form a separate national team at the school level identifying talented players through school level tournaments. SSDB shall provide scholarship to such talented players while NSC shall make arrangements for their training and international participation.
A five-member team shall also conduct orientation in all the districts after three weeks.
Meanwhile, the meeting has also decided to take initiative to introduce sports science as an optional subject at the higher secondary level. Though the NSC has already prepared course for the higher secondary level it could not be approved as the HSEB has not been able to conduct board meeting.
