Jazzmandu 2013: A taste of world jazz music

Kathmandu Jazz Festival 2013 kicked off on Thursday afternoon with a competition held at Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory at Jhamsikhel. The winner of the competition will get an opportunity to perform with international artists on Saturday, October 26.



Local jazz band Cadenza Collective added zest to the festival with their performance at Jazz Upstairs at Lazimpat on the same day. [break]



The second day of the festival, also popularly known as Jazzmandu, falls today and will be featuring an international line up. Music enthusiasts can spend today evening at any of the event venues at Thamel, Jhamsikhel, Lazimpat and Ekantakuna listening to a variety of jazz offerings from the bands.



This year’s Jazzmandu features artists and bands like 4th Element from India, Yaite Ramos Quartet from France, The Claudia Quintet from the USA, Swiss artist Eliane Amherd and Dutch pianist and composer Mike del Ferro. The local line up will feature Joint Family Internationale, Dhime Girls, Gandharva and Cadenza Collective.

Jazzmandu T-shirts and souvenirs will be on sale. No outside food and beverages or pets allowed. Free shuttle bus service available every hour from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Shuttle bus pick-up point, outside Hyatt Regency gate, Boudha. Return shuttle bus available between 10:00pm – 11:00pm, drop to Lazimpat. (Please note: the availability of seats in the shuttle bus is not guaranteed)

JAZZMANDU MASTER CLASS

The Jazzmandu master class is an opportunity for music students and jazz enthusiasts to interact with visiting musicians, share their experience and stories and learn different instrumental tips and techniques.



JAZZ AT PATAN

An evening of Nepali classical music fused with Jazz in a rich and soulful ambience. International musicians bring out their musical ideas and backgrounds with Nepal’s top-notch classical musicians and jazz band, Cadenza.



JAZZMANDU FINALE

Date: October 30, Wednesday

Show Time: 5:30pm to 10:00pm

Venue: Alliance Française, Tripureshwor

Ticket: Rs 990 (Gates open at 4:30pm and close at 8:00pm. Please be seated by 5:15pm)

The Finale BIG JAM!!Musicians from different bands play their sets and later jam together, creating a high-energy, improvised musical treat.
