Among others, the meeting told the Ministry of Labor and Transport Management to take necessary initiatives to phase out vehicles which are 20 years old. It has also asked the ministry take a lead role in managing and solving problems seen in traffic movement and parking zones.
“The ministry should coordinate with municipalities, traffic police, Roads Department, Nepal Drinking Water Supply Corporation, Nepal Telecom, Nepal Electricity Authority and other related departments in this regard and submit progress reports at regular intervals to the ELRC,” the minutes of the meeting said. “If necessary, authorized bodies should also amend the laws to solve these problems.”
The committee has also asked the offices of metropolitan cities, sub-metropolitan cities and municipalities to work out long-term and short-term solutions to address problems related to motor parking facilities.
“These bodies along with traffic police should also take the initiative in removing any infrastructure, electricity and telephone poles and road-side stalls that are creating obstruction in smooth vehicular movement,” the minutes of the meeting said.
