India’s ‘interference’ spurs protests

KATHMANDU, Sept 29: Hundreds of youths from Dhangadhi, Bardiya, Solukhumbu and Itahari districts on Monday took to the streets demonstrating against India's 'interference' in the internal affairs of Nepal.

Hundreds of students associated with Nepal Students Union (NSU), All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU) and ANNFSU-Revolutionary jointly organized protests in Dhangadhi and chanted slogans against India's interference following the unofficial blockade imposed by India.


"This protest is just a beginning," said Binaya Lama, chair of NSU. "If India does not stop interfering in Nepal's internal affairs, we'll mobilize the whole nation to protest against them."

Lama also stressed on the need for Nepal to slowly adopt path toward being self-reliant.

Similar protests were organized in Itahari. Students' union associated with Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist and Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist organized protests and chanted slogans against India in Itahari chowk. They also burnt effigy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the protest. Likewise, students' union jointly organized similar rally in Gulariya, the district headquarters of Bardiya.

In Solukhumbu, students' unions of the district chanted slogans against India's blockade and burnt the effigy of Modi, informed Jaganna Basnet, student leader of Solukhumbu district.
