KATHMANDU, Dec 31: Indian police have deported Neetu Singh, the wife of Nepali Congress leader Amresh Singh, to Nepal, accusing her of being involved in activities against India, said a news report published in Indian Express. [break]

It reported that Neetu was studying at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune and was in her final year. "Neetu Singh was deported to Nepal because she was found to be involved in anti-national activities. It was a high-level secret operation which our team completed successfully in quick time," it quoted Pune DCP (Special Branch) Ravindra Sengaonkar as saying.

She was arrested on December 5 and deported to Kathmandu the next day.

Amresh Singh is regarded as an NC leader having links with top Indian leaders. Sengaonkar said: "We are not supposed to share details. The case is high-profile and various investigative agencies are involved."

Asked if her deportation had anything to do with Amaresh, Sengaonkar said: "The police isn´t concerned about her domestic problems. She was deported considering national security."
