House meeting stalled for eighth consecutive day

KATHMANDU, May 19:  Meeting of the Legislature-Parliament was stalled for the eighth consecutive day after the Lawmakers from Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoists) picketed rostrum of the speaker  demanding correction of the president´s move to retain army chief in office.



Immediately after Speaker announced commencement of the meeting, Maoist lawmakers proceeded to the rostrum chanting slogans against the President. After 17 minutes of sloganeering by the Maoist lawmakers , Speaker Subas Nembang announced adjournment of the meeting till Wednesday 3 p.m. [break]

Earlier, a delegation of 22 political parties in the parliament met with the speaker , urging him to take immediate initiatives to run the House.


"We demand that the House meeting should be convened and the parliament should be given chance  to excercize its authority to elect a new government and excercize real supremacy of the people," said NC lawmaker Dr Minendra Rijal.
