KATHMANDU, Dec 5: There are just 90 days remaining until the House of Representatives (HoR) election, scheduled for March 5. As the election date approaches, the Election Commission (EC) has ramped up its preparations.
Political parties are also intensifying their efforts, placing the upcoming election at the forefront of their agendas.
Under its electoral programme, the Commission is set to advance its programme towards a proportional electoral system from coming Saturday (December 6).
According to the schedule, the deadline for political parties to submit applications for the proportional electoral system is set for December 7, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The list of political parties that have applied for the proportional election will be published on December 10, as per the EC schedule.
Political parties that have submitted applications are scheduled to submit the closed list of candidates on December 28-29 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Similarly, on 20 January 2026, the closed list of proportional candidates will be published, informed the spokesperson of the Commission, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
As per the schedule for the first-past-the-post election, the nomination papers of candidates will be registered on January 20. The list of candidates will also be published on the same day.
The period for filing objections against candidacy is set for January 21. The candidate list will be published on January 22.
Furthermore, on January 23, candidates can withdraw their nominations. On the same day, the final list of candidates will be published, and the electoral symbols will be given to the candidates.
