Speaking at a press conference at Reporter's Club on Thursday, Nepal's former ambassador to China, Rajeshwar Acharya, said that the ongoing protest in the southern plains is an internal crisis but the government has not shown seriousness to resolve the crisis even though it's been three months since the protests began."Top-level politicians should hold talks with the agitating parities to bring them on board. A high-level dialogue committee comprising top leaders of all major political parties should be formed," said he.
He said Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa has finally raised the issue of the Indian blockade along the border points in an international forum. "He could have raised the issue more strongly. Anyway, he has done a good job," he added.
He opined that as the blockade is all set to trigger humanitarian crisis due to shortage of essential goods, the government should formally informal all the South Asian countries, China and other friendly countries about the crisis and seek their support.
Similarly, CPN-UML lawmaker Rajan Bhattarai, who was foreign affairs advisor to Madhav Nepal, when he was prime minister, said that the government should also continuously update the international community about the efforts taken toward addressing the demands of the agitating parties.
He also criticized the "slackness" of the government in holding talks with the agitating parties.
