KATHMANDU, Oct 31: The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has said that most parts of the country are currently cloudy due to the remnants of Cyclone Arnab, which developed over the Bay of Bengal, and the partial influence of westerly winds.
Moderate rainfall is currently occurring in many areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, while some areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces are experiencing light rainfall.
Cloudy conditions are expected across all provinces this afternoon. Moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, as well as possible snowfall, is likely in most parts of Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati provinces, some areas of Gandaki, and some hilly and mountainous areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Heavy rainfall forecast in Bagmati, several provinces
Heavy rain and snowfall are also possible at one or two places in Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati provinces, according to the MFD. Light rainfall is expected in some Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The country is expected to remain cloudy tonight, with moderate rain and snowfall possible in some areas of the Himalayan region. Light rain is also likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces.
The MFD has advised people to avoid agricultural activities, including rice harvesting, today and tomorrow. It has also urged caution due to the risk of heavy snowfall, snowstorms and landslides in high-hill and Himalayan regions.
Tourists have been advised against travelling to high Himalayan areas, while those already there have been urged to remain in safe locations until weather conditions improve.
The MFD warned that the weather system could cause temperatures to drop, trigger landslides in vulnerable areas and along roads, and disrupt daily life, including road and air transport.
It has urged the public and concerned agencies to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
The impact of the weather system is expected to gradually weaken from tomorrow afternoon, the MFD said.
