KAILALI, June 26: A Nepali Army sergeant was killed and a captain was injured after a grenade exploded during a firing exercise in Kailali on Thursday.
The incident occurred at Jalpa Community Forest in Mohanyal Rural Municipality-7 during a military exercise. Sergeant Himal Bikram Bista was critically injured in the explosion and later died during treatment at Lal Ratna Hospital in Lamki, Kailali, at around noon, Nepal Police said.

Captain Himraj Joshi, who was nearby, was also injured by shrapnel. His condition is reported to be normal, and he has been flown to Kathmandu by a Nepal Army helicopter for further treatment.
Police said the incident occurred while a team from the Sudurpaschim Division Training Centre at Gorange Barracks was conducting a grenade firing exercise. Further investigation is underway.
