KATHMANDU, Feb 6: Six ordinances introduced by the government in the federal parliament will not be presented for a decision today.
The government has backed off from its plan to present the ordinances, citing the numerical situation in the National Assembly and pending discussions with the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal.
According to a leader of the ruling party, the agenda to present the ordinances in both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly has been changed. Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasia met with Speaker Devraj Ghimire and conveyed the Prime Minister's message.
Mahesh Bartaula, chief whip of the ruling CPN (UML), said that the ordinances will be tabled in the next meeting.
In the National Assembly, the JSP holds a decisive position but has not made a concrete decision yet. As a result, sources said that the agenda to table the ordinances in today's meeting has been removed.
