Organizing a program in Biratnagar on Sunday, the CCWB informed that it has kept 22 districts including seven districts in the eastern part of the country in the category of highly sensitive area in terms of the use of children in election campaigns by various parties. [break]
The seven eastern regional districts to be monitored are Ilam, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Sunsari, Morang, Saptari and Siraha. Other sensitive districts include Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Rautaht and Dhanusha in the central region.
Similarly, CCWB would also monitor Kaski, Syangja, Kapilvastu and Nawalparasi in the western region, Banke , Kanchanpur, Dang, Rukum in the mid-western as well as Bajura and Humla in the far-western region.
According to Dhuruba Keshar Thapa, an officer at the CCWB, they have selected the 22 districts as huge numbers of children were used during the campaigning during the last Constituent Assembly election.
It has been informed that district-level journalist, NGOs and INGOs as well as government offices working in the field of child rights, will be used for the monitoring.
Participations in the program informed that the various political parties have been using children in their poll campaigns, such as posting pamphlets, wall painting and cultural programs.
Chief District Officer of Morang, Bhim Raja Pokharel, reiterated the prohibition of children in poll campaigns, saying that as such activities would affects them mentally.
