The taskforce formed under the leadership of joint secretary at PMO, Sharad Chandra Paudel, has representations of Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Information and Communications, Ministry of Defense and Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA).
"We have already started discussion to work out necessary rule and will take necessary steps at the earliest," Paudel added.
The taskforce will also prepare a report on what could be done to minimize criminal activities through the use of telecommunication equipment.
"After the introduction of mobile telephone service, security threats and criminal activities have risen across the country," said Lilamani Adhikari, the secretary at PMO and Cabinet. "We are importing mobile phones without setting any proper standard and this is creating problems for us," he added.
"Though there is a provision of type approval so that the standards of mobile phones can be maintained, the implementation hasn´t been effective due to the lack of proper coordination between tax offices and Ministry of Finance," he added.
