Govt to deploy 260 NA personnel in Syria

KATHMANDU, July 11: The government on Thursday decided to send 260 Nepal Army (NA) personnel on a UN peace keeping mission in Syria.



A cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar approved a proposal to deploy NA personnel in the war-ravaged nation as per a request by the UN.[break]



Talking to the media after the meeting, Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Poudel said the government will send the NA personnel in two phases. While a contingent of 130 personnel will be sent within this month, another team of 130 personnel will reach there by September.



The meeting also decided to appoint Dhir Bahadur Chand as judge of the Labour Court as per the recommendation by the Legal Service Commission. He was previously serving as registrar at the Special Court.



According to Minister Poudel, the meeting approved the approach paper of the next three-year plan. Likewise, the meeting also decided to dissolve the Hetauda-based Cattle Feed Committee giving retirement to all of its staff effective from Thursday.
