KATHMANDU, July 22:  The government has decided to deploy the Nepal Army personnel to guard the uranium mine located near Lomanthang in Upper Mustang.


A Cabinet meeting held in Singha Durbar on Friday decided to this effect, Minister for Industry Som Prasad Pandey told Republica Online.


“A proposal seeking deployment of the Nepal Army personnel to guard the invaluable uranium mine had been submitted at the Industry ministry,” Minister Pandey said, “We will dispatch a letter to the Nepal Army to set up a company of army personnel for the protection of the uranium mine.”

Department of Mine and Geology under the Ministry of Industry has been making a survey and study of the mines. A team of experts at the Department of Mine and Geology led by Industry Minister Pandey had recently made a field visit to the uranium mine in Upper Mustang.
