Govt-teachers agreement in limbo

KATHMANDU, June 2: The agreements on issues of Education Act amendment signed between the Ministry of Education and teachers and employees have been in limbo after the demise of the parliament with the termination of the Constituent Assembly.



One of the agreements had making permanent from internal competition for temporary teachers signed between the Nepal Teachers Union and the Educational Republic Forum representative. [break]



Education Ministry Spokesman Janardan Nepal said the ministry could not make any initiative for amendment as there was no parliament, but it will be as per agreement in political level.



Now some 25,000 teachers are temporary and 40,000 are in relief quota, the eighth education act amendment bill prepared under pressure has been in limbo with the CA´s expiry, said Nepal Teachers Union Chairman Dil Bahadur Joshi.



Joshi also said the act could be amended from ordinance when there was no parliament.



Nepal National Teachers Organization Chairman Baburam Adhikari said they were discussing how to implement the agreement when there was no parliament.
