The Ministry has said the country is at a crucial phase of drafting a new constitution through agreement and collaboration and committed to democracy. It further stated that there are no other options to agreement despite dissenting views among the major political parties on constitution's content.
Underlining the rigorous efforts underway for resolving the conflict among the parties, the Ministry added, "The lathi wielding rallies, encirclement of government offices, three days of general strike like protest programmes are certain to pose a serious problem in country's law and order scenario."
"The state cannot sidestep its fundamental responsibility of managing peace and security while the fissure between the parties will widen," a statement issued by Home Minister Bamdev Gautam reads.
Home Minister Gautam has urged the opposition to withdraw its agitation programmes citing that such activities would lend advantage to elements contriving to push the country towards retrogression by obstructing the constitution making process and that parties' bid for consensus would become abortive.
The Minister said if the opposition cannot backtrack from its commitment to agitation, it should at least scrap programmes of lathi and torch rallies, picketing government offices, three days of consecutive general strikes and obstruction of revenue collection.
The 30-party alliance recently announced the second phase of stir accusing the ruling parties of not being serious towards drafting a constitution on basis of consensus.
