Talking to media persons upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport following a 10-day foreign trip on Friday, the prime minister said summoning House without agreement between the parties would only invite problems.[break]
“The government is ready to summon House session immediately if the parties forge an agreement,” he said.
Defending his foreign trip, which has drawn flak from several quarters, PM Nepal argued that his presence in Nepal would have made no difference. “My visit abroad has made no difference to the ongoing peace process,” he said.
Stating that he was ready to play his role in ending the ongoing political deadlock, he said, “I was in regular touch with leaders including the Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UML General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel even when I was abroad.”
The prime minister expressed regret over his decision to skip UN General Convention. “I have now realized that newspapers published articles and editorials suggesting me not to attend the UN General Assembly without properly understanding the issue,” he said. “It was a mistake not to take part in the assembly.”
PM Nepal had left Kathmandu on November 30 to take part in the 6th General Assembly Meeting of the International Conference of the Asian Political Parties. He later flew to Belgium to take part in the opening ceremony of European Development Day celebrations.
