Govt makes mandatory to take skill test for Nepali workers bound for jobs in Saudi Arabia

According to this new arrangement, every Nepali worker who wants to go to Saudi Arabia will now have to pass the prescribed test and obtain a certificate. An individual looking for a job in Saudi Arabia from now onward will have to pay $100 to pass the skill test.

KATHMANDU, June 17: The government has made it mandatory for Nepali workers going to Saudi Arabia for foreign employment to undergo a skill test to get a work permit.



According to the Department of Foreign Employment, Nepalis who do not pass the skill test will no longer be able to work in Saudi Arabia. The provision has come into effect from Wednesday.

According to this new arrangement, every Nepali worker who wants to go to Saudi Arabia will now have to pass the prescribed test and obtain a certificate. An individual looking for a job in Saudi Arabia from now onward will have to pay $100 to pass the skill test.


Nepal Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs Association however said that the new provision will pose an additional cost burden to the concerned workers. It will add on extra around Rs 15,000 per person just to get the work permit.
