International Labor Organization (ILO) had prepared the curriculum and recently submitted to the FEPB for approval.
The new curriculum was prepared to impart better knowledge about changing job environment and make Nepali workers capable enough to face different problems in overseas destinations.
“The curriculum is mainly focused on imparting knowledge about the ways of securing life and rights besides protecting themselves from HIV/AIDS in workplaces,” Sthaneshwor Devkota, executive director of FEPB, told myrepublica.com on Tuesday. “We will immediately enforce the curriculum in foreign employment orientation centers.”
The curriculum includes negative and positive aspect of overseas jobs, pre-departure preparation of documents and logistics, introduction of recipient countries, occupational hazards and ways to minimize them, including safety measures and first-aid treatment in case of accidents.
“The jobseekers will also be provided with information about the responsibilities of manpower agencies and their own role while heading for overseas jobs as well as the information on helping agencies concerned,” said Devkota.
Information about geographical, cultural, religious condition as well as immigration and traffic rules and regulations of the host countries have also included in the curriculum.
The curriculum also focuses on the personal security of women workers and includes ways for practicing self defense and personal safety measures in workplaces.
Amid rising incidents of Nepali workers being involved in different criminal activities and unionization, the curriculum would make job seekers aware about their rights, duties and responsibilities at workplaces. It also provides inputs to the job seekers about the easy ways of remitting their earnings to home.
The new curriculum also proposes extending training hours for men and women to 13 and 12 hours respectively.
Around four dozen private orientation centers are involved in providing pre-departure training to the job aspirants.
