“My boy was there with a broken leg but they neither operated on him nor provided any medicine. The doctors only wrapped a bandage on the wound,” Bishnu Saud, the boy´s father said. “After waiting for 3 weeks I took him to a private hospital though I am not in position to bear the cost,” he added. Unfortunately, Saud´s case not exceptional. Due to the sorry state of the hospital it has not been of much help to the people. Lack of good management and service has forced people to either to return home without treatment or turn to expensive private hospitals and doctors. And it costs the poor people a lot more when hospitals remain indifferent even in emergency for weeks.
“Had the doctors told me right away that his treatment was not possible here, I would have taken him elsewhere much earlier. That would saved me money and time,” said Saud.
According to a staff at the hospital, the doctors knowingly delay treatment or ignore patients to force them to seek treatment at their private clinics or hospitals. “I have seen many cases, mostly orthopedic patients, when they are deliberately ignored by the doctors. Though they can operate more than one patient in a day, they never do it,” he said.
Two orthopedic doctors - Sushil Bhandari and Pramod Joshi are with the hospital currently. Both declined to comment. Bhandari has a private orthopedic clinic just a minute walk from the hospital.
