DANG, May 6: At a time when the demand for ethnic-based federal states has intensified, various ethnic organizations organized a goodwill rally in Ghorahi, Dang on Sunday.

Organizations representing Chhetri, Brahmin, Dashnami and Muslims organized a goodwill rally accusing the politicians of trying to disrupt social harmony in the name of ethnic rights. [break]

They demanded that the federal states be drawn keeping the national integrity intact and with a view to uplifting the living standard of the deprived.

“The new constitution must unite Nepal and Nepalis,” said Treasurer of Brahmin Samaj Pushparaj Timilsina, adding, “What is the point in promulgating a constitution that would not accommodate all Nepalis?”

The organizers said they have joined forces to exert pressure on the government and political parties not to draw federal states on lines of ethnicity.

Speaking at the same function, Chairman of Rapti Muslim Samaj Anjan Ali Siddique accused the state of discriminating against minority groups.

Similarly, Dang Chairman of Chhetri Samaj Man Bahadur KC maintained that they must be enlisted as indigenous nationality.
