Give and take in employment

The adage 'Nothing comes for free' is valid everywhere. There's a give and take in each and every aspect of our lives. Be it relationships, driving a car, or job. No relationship can succeed if you take it for granted. Your car can only serve you best if you take good care of it. Similarly, your job is also about give and take. Your employer pays you certain remuneration for the work you do. It will continue only if you continue giving the desired results.

Especially young graduates need to realize that nothing comes for free, and there's no 'reserve fund' for you. If you get paid Rs XXX per month, then it's expected that your performance on work be worth Rs XXX ++. As an employee, you always need to consider what it is that you give to the organization and what you get in return.

Hence, the challenge for you as an individual should be to be constantly productive, result oriented, and perform your role as best as you can. Here are some tips to ensure that you can perform and thrive at your job.

1. Ensure that your individual performance is noticed.

2. Ensure that you understand and follow the instructions specified by your boss and execute your responsibilities accordingly.

3. Come up with suggestions that can improve the organization, particularly your department.

4. Rather than complaining, become a part of the solution.

5. When you're free from work and your colleagues are not, offer them help.

6. Be flexible to multitask.

7. Create opportunity to be noticed.

8. Always complete your task on time.

9. Always be punctual.

10. Be dependable, but try not to be dependent on others.

Now take a look at your current job. If you've checked most of the points mentioned above, you sure are doing a good job, and your work will certainly get noticed if it hasn't been noticed yet. Also keep in mind that a good organization should always ensure that if the individual's performance is good and if the organization is growing, then the individual associated with the organization must also grow. Growth has to always be in partnership, not in isolation. If you're putting in your best efforts, and the efforts are producing the desired outcomes, they you'll certainly succeed.
