The SAFF congress held in Dhaka elected president of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Kazi Salahuddin for the post on Saturday. BFF president won the hot seat of the regional soccer body unopposed in the SAFF Congress at Sheraton Hotel in Dhaka.

ANFA President Thapa had to quit the supreme post of SAFF just one month after he was elected as ANFA president for the consecutive fourth time. Thapa had been holding the reins of the eight-nation football body since 1999. Thapa is also an executive member of Asian Football Confederation.

According to maldivesoccer.net, Maldivian officials criticized Thapa and SAFF on the general congress. Football Association of Maldives´ president, Mr Ali Azim has branded the elections of SAFF and their policies as a ´big joke´. There was no formal communication sent to member countries to propose their nominations prior to the elections.

The All India Football Federation general secretary Alberto Colaco was elected as SAFF general secretary.
