“The voter registration process should be extended for one more month,” said Gachchhadar, adding, “More than 5.2 million voters, who have citizenship certificates have yet to be registred.”
He further said that the existing number of constituencies should be increased by five in the Tarai. “More than 50 percent of the country´s population lives in the Tarai, so Madhes should get a minimum of 121 constituencies out of the 240 set aside for first-past-the-post electoral system.”
When asked about party´s homework for Constituent Assembly (CA) elections, he said, “We are holding Central Working Committee meeting in August third week in Biratnagar and it will take decisions on all the issues related to election,” he said maintaining that poll must be held on the scheduled date of November 19.
In a separate context, he said that his party was ready to hold all-party meeting or a roundtable conference to bring the agitating parties on board the election process. He claimed that his party will emerge as the third largest party after the elections.
TMDP CWC meeting next week
Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Hridayesh Tripathi has said his party´s central working committee meeting is scheduled for July 24. “CWC meeting will take decisions to finalize manifesto, candidacy nomination, district convention and all the issues related to the polls,” said Tripathi.
When asked about the SC ruling, he said, “The ruling has made the party concerned."
He predicted that the upcoming elections may not be held on the slated date alleging that the Election Commission is against holding a "meaningful" elections.
