As a child, he thought he would one day become either a rock star or Spiderman. He became neither, and rather made a name for himself as a painter and an RJ. Now he is also an author. With that, Bangdel is all set to release his collection of short stories and haikus called “Mist Around the Stupa” today at The World Bank Public Information Center at Putali Sadak.[break]
Bangdel made it clear: “I’ve always been writing. During my schooldays, I used to write a lot of poems. I continued it even in my teenage and contributed articles to various magazines in town. Being an artist is both a blessing and curse. At times, you get caught by motifs, and vice versa.”
Bangdel claims that he is very quick at working in various fields simultaneously, and he says if one really enjoys his/her work, one can indeed prove the proverb “Jack of all trades, master of none” wrong.

He started his career at the Young Asia Television, and later became a radio jockey of Nepal at Image FM 97.9 MHz in Kathmandu, and realized his growing passion in painting.
Inspired by his grandfather, the renowned artist and writer late Lain Singh Bangdel, he took painting professionally while spinning discs as an RJ in the studio.
Now he is also trying his hands in writing professionally.
His first anthology of short stories “Mist Around the Stupa” is published by Beata Wiggen Van Amstel, a Dutch lady. She is also the promoter of his paintings in Holland.
“My book has 12 short stories and 54 haikus. They are simple short stories, yet very deep within. They don’t carry heavy stuffs or too much of dramas. They talk about how we find reasons to be happy, how we find humor in everything no matter how hard the circumstances are, and how we’re always proud of all the precious little that we have. Those who’ve read my book already have complimented me that they’ve found a lot of silence and empty spaces in my writing that successfully portray a lot of depths and expressions.”
He expects that, if not all the people, those who know him as an RJ will surely read his book.
“I’ve tried to work hard, and will give this passion of mine a continuation. But it’s another reality that I paint more often than I write. Had I exercised writing as much as I did in painting, I would’ve excelled. However, I know that I love being creative. After all, that’s all I’m good at. Therefore, sooner or later, I’ll establish my writing standards, too,” he elaborated.
He made it clear that his writing has nothing to do with his painting. “Many keep on asking me if my poems are somehow related to what I paint. No, these two genres are completely different to me,” he said.
He unveiled that radio programs are a stress buster to him, painting is his passion and profession, and writing is his newfound love.
“Yes, I couldn’t be a rock star though I had a rock band in school called Hell ‘n Out. I can never have the power like that of Spiderman, either. But I’m sure that I’m going to excel in all these little things I’ve been doing so far. With my early childhood experiences embedded on my mind, I know my priorities now. Besides, nature has always been a great inspiration to me to become a painter, and I’ll make sure I’ll stand out in all I try my hands at. I’ll prove myself as a visual artist and a good writer,” he concluded.
To that, myrepublica shouts “Three Cheers!” to Chirag Bangdel for his three avatars – an artist, an RJ, and now an author.
