KATHMANDU, May 19: Save the Children on Tuesday demanded immediate release of minors verified by United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) from various 28 cantonments across the country.

“Building on the call of the Army Integration Special Committee to the government to release minor combatants from cantonments, Save the Children believes that rehabilitation and reintegrating these children back to their society would send a positive message for the rights of children in Nepal,” said a press statement issued by the international child rights body on the occasion of its 90th anniversary.

It also appealed to all including political class and civil society to advocate for the provisions in the new constitution that will uphold and promote the rights of children in Nepal. “Children and their rights have so long been subject to political rhetoric but we feel that the time has come to make reality the statement ´Children are the future of the nation,´” added the statement.
