Former badminton champ Paneru retires

KATHMANDU, Jan. 18: Former Nepal champion of badminton, Pashupati Paneru took retirement from his sports life.



Paneru declared his retirement at a press meet organized by the Nepal Badminton Association today. He was living in USA for the past 36 months and said he will not participate in any national or international tournament from now onwards, but will work as a trainer at the Boston Badminton Club of USA in the days ahead.



He said he plans to go to USA as there is no future of star players here even if future of badminton in Nepal was good.



He had won bronze medals in the ninth SAG in 2004 in Pakistan and tenth in Sri Lanka in 2006 in team event. He won men´s doubles in Nepal International Series in 2005. He had also won in New York open men´s single and was second in City Opens in 2009 and first in doubles in Mid-Atlantic in 2009 in the USA.
