Foreign minister off to Geneva

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire left for Geneva Friday night, leading the Nepali delegation to the High Level Segment of the Substantive Session of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Ghimire is scheduled to participate in the ECOSOC Substantive Sessions scheduled to be held between July 1-4 in Geneva.



ECOSOC substantive session has a number of segments which lasts till July 26, 2013. According to a press statement issued by MoFA on Sunday, the ECOSOC Substantive Session will be devoted to twin themes -- science, technology and innovation and the potential culture for promoting sustainable development and achieving Millennium Development Goals. The statement said Ghimire would participate in the General Debate of the High Level Segment on July 2 and deliver a statement. He will also participate in other round-table meetings and high-level policy dialogues. [break]



Ghimire is also scheduled to meet UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, UN Under Secretary General and heads of some of the UN specialized agencies, including WTO. He will also take part in other high level activities during his stay in Geneva. The other delegation members include Nepal´s Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva Shanker Bairagi and other senior MoFA officials.
