The four-day-long event is being organized by Nepalese Young Entrepreneurs’ Forum (NYEF) with the stated aim to promote services and products of local manufacturers and encourage people to use domestic products over foreign brands. Shivam Cement is the title sponsor of the event.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the event, Minister for Industry Mahesh Basnet said that giving priority to local products over foreign-made ones was the only option to lift up Nepal’s industrial sector and the national economy along with it.
“We need to encourage the use of locally-made products to the promote industrial sector here and it has to begin from government offices themselves,” Basnet said, adding: “We will soon make some amendments to the Public Procurement Act and the Directive to Increase Consumption of Domestic Goods in Public Offices 2013, and make the use of local products mandatory.”

“We have been organizing the event for the last four years. This year too, we aim to discourage the use of foreign brands and encourage the use of locally-manufactured products among the people,” Niranjan Shrestha, president of NYEF said, adding: “Besides promoting domestic products in the local market, the focus of the expo is also to promote these products in the international markets.”
The expo, according to Shrestha, has 130 stalls and will showcase Nepali readymade garments, home appliances, electric goods, cosmetics, footwear, food products and pashmina, among others.
Organizers say that visitors to the expo will be charged Rs 20 as entrance fee. NYEF expects to draw around 100,000 spectators during the event.
