The scholarship will be provided to students joining the three-year Bachelor's in Film Studies (BFS) program at Oscar International College in Chabahil, Kathmandu. Affiliated with Tribhuvan University, it is the only film college in Nepal.
"We're really happy with the Board's decision to increase the number of scholarship. This will largely aid students with limited means who want to pursue film studies," said Binod Paudel, principal of the college.
Raj Kumar Rai, president of the Film Development Board, said that the Board's decision aims at encouraging the culture of studying films. "Educated and skilled manpower are much needed in the film industry to not only improve the quality of Nepali films, but also to establish this as a reputed industry. I hope more and more filmmakers in near future will be equipped with a degree in filmmaking," he said, emphasizing that it's absolutely necessary for people to understand that film is a subject that needs serious studying, too.
Each scholar will be entitled to a grant of Rs 105,000, which will be handed over to them in annual installments of Rs 35,000 for a period of three years. The scholarship has been divided into open, women, ethnic group, Madhesi, and Dalit quotas.
