Far-western regional cricket from Oct 16

KATHMANDU: The Seventh Far-western Regional Shubhakamana Cup Cricket Tournament will begin in Baitadi district on October 16, the organizers announced at a press conference in the capital on Monday.



The 10-day event, jointly organized by Baitadi District Cricket Association, Namuna Youth Sports Club, Melauli, and United Youth of Nepal, will feature about three dozen teams of far-western region and will be held at three different venues, said the organizers. [break]



According to Tej Bahadur Chand, the chief sponsor and a sports enthusiast, the event is being conducted to raise the standard of the players and the game in Baitadi district. Chand will bear all the expenses of the tournament that is expected to cost Rs 2.5 million. President of Baitadi District Cricket Association Ramesh Bohara informed that the event will be held in league-cum-knockout format. The top four teams will be awarded Rs 111,111, Rs 51,111, Rs 25,111 and Rs 15,111 respectively.
