KATHMANDU, March 26: A landslide buried an excavator along with its operator during road widening work in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality, Lamjung, resulting in the operator’s death.
The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Bicky Mahato from Nawalparasi.
Think beyond roads
According to the District Police Office, Lamjung, the accident occurred around 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday near Bhache-Bhadaure in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality–2.
While breaking rocks to widen the road from Khudi to Bhujung, a sudden landslide from above struck the excavator Mahato was operating.
A smaller machine at the site failed to remove the buried excavator, delaying rescue efforts. Inspector Abhishek Pandey said that a larger excavator was brought in to attempt the rescue, but Mahato could not be pulled out alive.
Police have stated that further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
