Ex-PM Nepal to meet Indian PM, Gandhi

KATHMANDU, July 23: Former prime minister and senior leader of the CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal is leaving for India on a five-day official visit on Wednesday, at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh.



Former prime minister Nepal is scheduled to meet Indian PM Singh at 5 pm Thursday. "He is meeting UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi at 4pm on Friday," said Rajan Bhattarai, member of the foreign affairs department of the CPN-UML. He will meet leaders from various leftist political parties in India at a breakfast meeting earlier in the morning. [break]



Similarly, Indian Minister for External Affairs Salman Khurshid will call on Nepal. Minister Khurshid and Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar will host luncheon meetings for Nepal in Delhi and Patna respectively. Nepal, during his stay in Delhi, will meet key leaders from various other political parties as well.



Nepal is also scheduled to address a special program at Nalanda University. He will be accompanied by UML General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel and Bhattarai, who also worked as foreign affairs adviser to Nepal, when the latter was prime minister. UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior Nepali Congress leader and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba also visited India recently.
