KATHMANDU, July 20: Former inspector generals of police (IGPs) Ramesh Chand Thakuri and Hem Bahadur Gurung were released on bail Wednesday after they deposited bail amounts in court of Rs 70 million and Rs 50 million respectively through separate bank guarantees.
According to Special Court Registrar Dhir Bahadur Chand, Civil Bank deposited the bail amount on behalf of Thakuri while Global Bank deposited the amount on behalf of Gurung.[break]
The Special Court had sent the two to Dillibazar jail after they failed to deposit bail as sought by the court. Thakuri and Gurung, as per the findings of the national anti-graft body CIAA, are the main accused in the multi-million rupee Sudan scam.
Meanwhile, the Special Court on Wednesday sent DSP Prakash Adhikary, another of the accused officials in the scam, to Dillibazar jail after he failed to deposit bail of Rs 1.5 million.
