England beat Ireland in U-19 cricket World Cup

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: England U-19 team on Sunday registered seven wickets victory over Ireland in the ICC U-19 World Cup at Townsville and maintained its hope for the super league from Group A.



England defeated Ireland by seven wickets and is behind Australia in the points table which had earlier defeated England in the opener by six wickets. Winning the toss, England invited Ireland to bat first and restricted the latter to 109 runs in 42.2 overs. England successfully chased the target in 36.2 overs at the loss of three wickets.[break]



In group D match held at Brisbane, South Africa defeated Bangladesh by 133 runs. In the opening day on Saturday, Bangladesh had registered 25 runs win over Sri Lanka. Losing the toss, South Africa batted first and scored 294 runs losing eight wickets. Chasing the huge target of 295 runs, Bangladesh was bowled out on 161 runs off 34.3 overs.



In group C match held at Townsville, West Indies registered four wickets victory over India on Sunday. Batting first India managed to score 166/8 runs in 50 overs. West Indies surpassed the target in 47.1 overs losing six wickets.



New Zealand registered 39 runs victory over Scotland in the group B match at Buderim. Batting first, New Zealand scored 247 runs losing nine wickets and restricted Scotland for 208 runs in 46.5 overs.



Nepal will face Australia in its opening match at Townsville on Monday morning. The match will telecasted live on ESPN and Star Sports television channels.
