HETAUDA, Feb 7: As a way to end the ongoing political impasse, the ruling UCPN (Maoist) has floated a new proposal of forming an election government under the leadership of incumbent chief justice (CJ), on Thursday.

According to party spokesperson Agni Sapkota, the closed session of the ongoing seventh general convention of the party, following group discussion, endorsed the new proposal put forth by party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.[break]

Earlier, during the inaugural session, Dahal had announced that the ongoing general convention would come up with a ‘formula’ to end the ongoing political stalemate in the country.

Meanwhile, the closed session has endorsed Dahal’s political document, and party statute drafted by Swanam Sathi.

However, the provision for referendum for resolution of Nepal-India border disputes has been removed from Dahal’s document following widespread criticism from party cadres.

The closed session also approved, in principle, the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPPA) signed with India. It has, however, suggested formulation of new national laws if certain provisions of the trade deal can have adverse ramifications for national capital.

Three different views were put forth each by leaders Gopal Kiranti, Ram Karki and Lekhraj Bhatta challenging Dahal’s document during the closed session. According to Sapkota, Kiranti withdrew his view later on.
